 About CLAT Exam

CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is a non-statutory body created under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the convenience of the students seeking admission to various National Law Universities in the country. An entrance exam is conducted to provide a list of candidates on the basis of ‘merit-cum-preference’ to each University for admission to their Under-Graduate (UG) / Post-Graduate (PG) programmes, as per his/her eligibility, reservation and other criteria laid down under the respective statutes of the participating Universities.

The CLAT is an all India common entrance examination, conducted on the rotational basis by 18 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their UG and PG degree programmes.

Only preparing as per the CLAT Syllabus & Pattern is not enough to crack CLAT entrance exam. It needs a proper planning that can brief for how to crack CLAT Examination.

Every year no. of students for CLAT Exam is increasing because of good career opportunities in law & popularity among students, so prepare for this exam with a proper planning.

Educational Qualification for CLAT Entrance Exam

For CLAT UG Program
1. Applicant should be Passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with the minimum of

  • 45 % Marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved/OBC/ (Specially Abled Persons) Categories.and
  • 40 % Marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST Category.

2. Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in any specific year (exp.-2017) are also eligible for appearing in the CLAT-2017 examination. In any case, they shall be required to deliver proof of their passing the qualifying examination in the individual National Law Universities at the season of admission failing which they shall lose their entitlement to be considered for admission.

For CLAT PG Programme
1. LL.B. or equivalent degree in law examination with a minimum of:-

  • 55 % marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved/OBC/ (Especially abled persons) categories.and
  • 50 % marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category.

2. Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in any specific year (exp.-2017) are also eligible for appearing in the CLAT-2017 examination. In any case, they shall be required to deliver proof of their passing the qualifying examination in the individual National Law Universities at the season of admission failing which they shall lose their entitlement to be considered for admission.

Minimum Age Limit for CLAT Exam

  • Candidates shall be below 20 Years of age in case of all General/Unreserved/NRIs/NRI Sponsored categories candidates.
  • Candidates shall be below 22 years of age in case of SC/ST/ OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) category candidates.

Maximum Age Limit for CLAT Exam

  • No Upper/Maximum age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT Exam.

Note: Bar Council of India has come with a new circular which recommended that according to the statement 28 of the legal education rules 2008, the most extreme (maximum) age for looking for admission in the 5 years integrated program is 20 years. But this not finalised yet.
