Indian Civil Services is one of the oldest and best civil services in the world because this examination was started in 1861. The Indian Civil Services has foundations in the British Raj where the service was intended to serve the British interests. The Union Public Service Commission is the government body responsible for selecting the best candidates for Civil Service. Every year only around 1000 applicants are selected for all the 24 services combined.
